Broadcasting Club @ UWM Announces Sporting Event Coverage
Milwaukee, WI, Oct. 3, 2005 – Continuing to make history at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Broadcasting Club @ UWM is providing live, play-by-play Internet coverage of UWM women’s volleyball and basketball home games.
The broadcasts are an effort to meet two of the club’s most important goals: to provide real-world experience to its members, many of whom are interested in pursuing broadcasting as a career, and to provide service to the university. The club will provide coverage for all women’s volleyball home games for the remainder of their season, as well as women’s basketball home games once that season begins.
“It’s really great that we are able to do this. It’s great experience for club members and it allows those who live out of state, like parents of players, to hear the game through their computer,” said Kyle Duerstein, Director of Internet Broadcasting for the club.
The Internet broadcasts are available through the club’s web site, www.pawstv3.com.
Details and step-by-step instructions on how to access live broadcasts is available at the site approximately 15 minutes prior to game-time. A complete schedule of live broadcasts can also be found on the website.
ABOUT THE BROADCASTING CLUB AT UWM
The Broadcasting Club @ UWM was founded in the fall of 2003 as a student organization with the stated purpose of furthering the education of and educational opportunities for those students interested in broadcasting. In addition to the Internet sports broadcasts, the club produces half-hour television programs each week that air on the club’s new student television station, PawsTV3, found on campus cable channel 3. Weekly programs include:
PantherPause, a half hour news interview program examining issues that are important to students and the UWM community.
PantherProwl, a half hour sports interview program.
Student Showcase, a news interview program devoted to showcasing student talent.
Last year, the Northwest Broadcast News Association named the club’s live 4th Congressional District debate as the best student public affairs program in six states. The club’s “Ask the Chancellor” program won a merit award in the same category. The NBNA awards were among the six state and regional awards received by the club in just its second year of existence.
