UWM Programming Available on Time Warner Cable's "Wisconsin On Demand"
MILWAUKEE, WI ÐThose interested in all things UWM have a new source of information.
TV viewers with digital cable through Time Warner Cable can access Wisconsin on Demand (WIoD) on Channel 1111. From the main menu, viewers scroll to "Your Community" and select the UWM category. Channel 1111 uses state-of-the-art Video On Demand technology that allows viewers to access programs when viewers want them, with pause, fast-forward and rewind capabilities. WIoD is free to all Time Warner Cable digital cable customers.
UWM selections include newscasts produced by UWM PantherVision, as well as programs produced by the Broadcast Club. Mark Zoromski, instructor for PantherVision and adviser to the Broadcast Club, says, ÒThe partnership is a win-win situation. Our students add another venue for their work, and Time Warner Cable gets content for their growing on-demand digital cable service."
"Time Warner Cable is delighted to showcase UWM programs on Wisconsin on Demand. The channel is all about our great state of Wisconsin and so it is fitting to feature one of our state's top universities on the channel," says Stacy Zaja; Time Warner Cable community relations manager.
Zoromski, who was instrumental in forging the agreement with the cable company, is the undergraduate director in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. He teaches television news and media law.
PantherVision is a half-hour weekly newscast created by the departmentÕs broadcast news students. The technical side of PantherVision is the responsibility of second-year television and video production students at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC). PantherVision also is aired on Milwaukee County Transit buses via the Transit Television Network (TTN), and on the Higher Education Cable Consortium (HECC) channel in Southeastern Wisconsin. The Broadcast Club provides hands-on experience operating cameras and audio boards, hosting shows and directing. Membership is open to all UWM students.
Student generated programs include studio-based news and sports programming, documentaries, interviews with campus personalities and coverage of university events.
